We should keep in mind the profile of the culprit we are hunting. Who is this intrusive narrator? What would an artist’s sketch of him look like? Could you pick him out of a lineup? What’s his m.o.? Like most break-ins, his usually take place at the intersection of motive and opportunity. But he’s not motivated by the things that prompt most common criminals, like greed, lust, or vengeance.
